Here’s the latest news: My new novels GARDENS OF NIGHT and THE LIVING AND THE DEAD are now available. Also, my novel LONG AFTER DARK (released earlier this year from Delirium Books) is now available in paperback and digital editions at all the usual booksellers. GARDENS OF NIGHT, which launched UNINVITED BOOKS, an exciting and important new publishing company owned and operated by author/editor Robert Dunbar (author of THE PINES and THE SHORE) was released in a limited hardcover (which has already sold out) and is now available in paperback. I hope you’ll all support GARDENS OF NIGHT (which critics are already calling some of my best work) and UNINVITED BOOKS. Be sure to visit their site and check out the other upcoming titles as well. THE LIVING AND THE DEAD, from Delirium Books (with cover art by the fantastic Daniele Serra) was released in limited edition hardcover and digital editions only. There will be no paperback on this one (at least there are no plans for one at this point). In addition, my novel A VIEW FROM THE LAKE, which has been out of print for a few years now, will be released again, this time from BAD MOON BOOKS, in both paperback and hardcover editions. More information will follow on these and other projects soon.
My novella CATCHING HELL (Cemetery Dance Publications) received a starred review in Publishers Weekly (my second starred review from them) and has gotten some serious interest from numerous Hollywood producers. This limited hardcover novella is expected to sell out soon, so if you haven’t grabbed yours yet, get in on it now because once they’re gone they’re gone.
Here are some brief synopses from the back covers of GARDENS OF NIGHT, CATCHING HELL, THE LIVING AND THE DEAD and LONG AFTER DARK.
GARDENS OF NIGHT
Recovering from an unthinkably violent trauma, Marcus Banyon comes to perceive a different reality. Have his eyes been opened to forces long hidden from the rest of humanity? Or has he suffered a psychotic break as his doctors suggest? As he retreats to an isolated chalet with his also-recovering wife and his oldest friend, Marc’s visions lead them to an ancient mythology steeped in mystery and deception…and to a trio of sinister beings who hold the fate of the world in their hands.
CATCHING HELL
Summer, 1983. As fall approaches and the summer stock theaters on Cape
Cod close for the season, three promising young actors and a stagehand
pile into an old Ford Fairlane and head for a vacation resort in Maine.
Hoping for a relaxing getaway before pursuing their dreams in New York
City or going on to college, they instead encounter a bizarre storm
while on a lonely stretch of state highway and soon find themselves
stranded in the strange rural community of Boxer Hills. At first glance
it seems a harmless little backwoods town, but Boxer Hills has a
horrible secret and a deadly history. It is a place of horrific age-old
rituals and a legendary evil that will let no one escape without paying
a terrible price. Before the sun rises on a new day, they will have to
fight their way through the night and out of town, or risk falling prey
to an endless cycle of depravity and violence at the hands of a demonic
creature so profane few will even speak its name. They were young,
reckless and chasing hell. What they hadn't counted on was actually
catching it.
THE LIVING AND THE DEAD
The rains came, and with it, the beginning of the end…and a night unlike any other… Dempsey, an old man and a hopeless alcoholic, lost in his world of night stories and a past riddled with horrors and regrets too damning to face…Christopher, a clinical psychologist trapped in a dying marriage, the victim of childhood violence and abuse so horrific even he cannot fully remember the truths behind them… Anita, a secretary and mistress to her boss, separated from her husband and searching for the happiness that has always eluded her…Lana , a woman on the run, a thief drowning in guilt and pursued by demons she can never hope to escape...Lennox and Perry, a young and hedonistic couple drifting aimlessly through life and looking for thrills to make their empty existences worth living...Duck, a lonely and troubled Vietnam vet who finds solace in caring for stray cats and doing his best to forget the horrors of his past… As the storm hits, seven lost souls are forced together in the small isolated town of Tall Tree Junction. But the storm has brought with it more than torrential rains…it has awakened a terrifying and enigmatic creature that preys on Man’s darkest fears, and brings with it, the ghosts of the past. Night falls, and that which separates the living from the dead is no more…
LONG AFTER DARK
Harry Fremont hasn't slept in days. He's down with a terrible flu: runny nose, fever, a sore throat, the chills, and worst of all, a horrible cough that keeps him up all night. His wife Kelly is away on a business trip and their son Garret is at college, leaving Harry alone in the house. Though worn out, Harry has been unable to sleep...and things are starting to change. He's seeing unusual things outside, just beyond the windows and confines of his home...hearing things...experiencing unsettling things that make no sense. And they're getting worse. Are they simply figments of a tortured and exhausted mind, or clues to an intricate mystery steeped in evil and deception Harry cannot yet comprehend? Haunted by remnants of earlier nightmares, disturbing questions about his life and marriage, strange shadowy figures, odd noises, cryptic writings on his doors and glimpses of a hideously disfigured being wrapped in bloody bandages, Harry free-falls into a horrifying world of paranoia, agony and terror where nothing is what it seems. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us...long after dark. Sleep while you still can.
